Arms of alliance of the Auersperg and Falkenhayn families in Šrajbarski Turn
LESKOVEC PRI KRšKEM, ŠRAJBARSKI TURN MANOR (THURN AM HART)
Location of the coat of arms: portal
The arms of alliance above the portal of Šrajbarski turn Manor (Ger. Thurn am Hart) in Leskovec pri Krškem represent the marriage alliance of Reichard Josef Count von Auersperg (1731–1797) and his third wife, Maria Beatrice Countess von Falkenhayn (1739–1810). Reichard Josef took over Šrajbarski turn Manor after the death of his father Alexander in 1759. The period of his lordship also includes the restoration and rebuilding of the castle. The work was carried out in 1769 and 1770, as is also testified by the inscription of the year on the gable end of the agricultural building, and the same year (1770) was probably hidden in the still partially legible chronogram on the sundial in the manor’s courtyard. At that time, a pair of pediments with clocks on both the interior and exterior sides was added to the northern tract, and the moat was backfilled; in the southern tract, a chapel was built with a small belfry and an onion-dome roof. Renovation work was also carried out on the second-floor rooms, the façade, the castle park, and the manor farm. On that same occasion, the late Baroque heraldic plaque was probably mounted above the portal. Various hues, still perceivable today in individual heraldic elements, suggest that the coats of arms were once colored. Shown in the dexter half are the easily recognizable arms of the Counts von Auersperg. The arms in the sinister half are less well-known in Slovenia; they have been often misidentified and erroneously attributed to the Galls and the Perizhoffers, among others. It is, in fact, the coat of arms of the now extinct Counts von Falkenhayn, especially widespread in the seventeenth century in the territories of the former Silesia and Prussia. In 1690, they were elevated to counts of the Holy Roman Empire and granted the coat of arms displayed on Šrajbarski turn Manor.
Today, the heraldic plaque is in deplorable condition, especially the partly broken arms of the Falkenhayns.
